Dew drops caught instead

After years of being a night owl,
Decades really,
By way of courtesy to others
' need for sleep,
Even in daylight, this is still one of those,
Anxiety inducing moments:
Counting down those last few seconds
on the microwave.

butterflies fighting
spiral up towards the sun
... who won?

crowded room chatters
the din akin to silence
once disengaged

Weekend of leisure
What are we going to do?
We'll "Waste" it with friends!

Fingers manipulate
Plastic bottle ring

Reflected sunlight blinds
Countless dew drops turn to mist
The song on repeat.

Only a moment
Can't spare more on reflection
All that is needed

Long golden sunbeams
Cool breeze, cloud eddys, bird song
Back-porch rocking chairs

Snake swimming to me
Offering... kisses or diamonds?
Not staying to see.

Distant lightning strikes
Deer casually drinks from pond
Feet up, cigar lit

Hmm, such a good day
But haiku fodder eludes
So, a crappy poem

Red-bud blossoms glow
Forked light streaks gray marshmallows
The air, thick with promise

Giant drainage ditch
Tiny clear puddle
Lone mallard playing

Toddler stands alone
Unprovoked dog bite
Spiraling chaos

MY right, logs are sawn
MY eyelids heavy, sleep nears
MY pensive thoughts, rouse
